I signed the “Make Fruit Fair” petition because large supermarket chains occupy prime real-estate in the “Support Human Rights and Ban Child Slave Labor” food chain.

Supermarkets, because of their buying power, are in a strong position to positively influence fruit brokers, middlemen, suppliers and landowners who obtain fruit which is harvested by many hundreds of thousands of poorly paid workers in Latin America and Africa.
These workers and small farmers, who work very long hours, still don’t earn enough to feed their families properly, don’t earn enough to cover basic household needs, experience dreadful working conditions with inadequate health and safety standards, and who are often exposed to harmful toxic agrochemicals which are well known to cause serious health problems.
