Ode To Social Media 2012 by Gaye Crispin

“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams, wandering by lone sea-breakers, and sitting by desolate streams..”

Ode To Social Media

(To be read with a strong Australian drawl.)

-

This Social Media, I really must ask,

Are you in with both feet, or hoping it’s a fad that’ll pass?

Strong business demands that its leader be bold,

With an agile mind … that makes impossibilities unfold.

-

So are you on  Twitter? It’s fun and it’s free.

Facebook and Google+ ?  There’s no more, “To be or not to be?”

-

LinkedIn will host your perfect résumé.

While Instagram , Flickr  or Tumblr share your pic of the day.

-

YouTube gives the latest in both news and song,

And BlogTalk Radio is great company all the day long.

-

Your connect.me  Xeeme EAv and Klout

Were designed to keep you up-to-date with your own whereabouts.-

-

Hansel and Gretel would be okay today,

With TomTom , NAVMAN or Foursquare tracking their steps all the way.

-

Big thanks to Matt Mullenweg of WordPress fame,

You made Gutenberg and Caxton rock, rattle and roll in their graves.

-

WordPress is so green, its gone enviro-blue,

Because no trees need be  felled to share news, blogs or poems with you.

-

Wikipedia‘s for those who love to learn.

And then there’s eBay  for the people who are looking  to earn.

-

Use G+, Skype or VCalls for chats  with friends,

It’s free so it doesn’t matter if your chatting never ends.

-

Large or small platforms….  whatever you require.

Private clubs or niche communities serving every desire.

It’s all here online….  and we don’t have to pay,

So it’s really has me stumped why any business stays away!

Hide-&-Seek’s a game only non-liners* play.

They think, “this online craze is a fad – it’ll soon fade away.”

-

Crush It  or crash it.  Disengage or Engage.

End Of Business as Usual! … Hell! It’s Social Media age!

Life is change – change is life…. old, make way for new!

Just one question….very simple… “Where online can I find you ?”

*non-liners is a word I made up for businesses that aren’t online…yet.

Hi, I’m Gaye Crispin, a fair-trade chocolate-loving, coffee-drinking, blog-loving, fruit & veg loving, life-loving, enthusiastic,  business strategist, business owner and social media student.

I have a passion to help women entrepreneurs help other women entrepreneurs around globe. I also love reading books and meeting people. I love anything to do with looking after the planet, preserving wilderness and natural habitats, and helping spread the word about the importance of supporting our organic farms.

I am also very interested in supporting  aquaponics research and projects,  as I see them as a viable and sustainable food production system, especially for countries where energy costs and water shortages are a serious consideration.

I believe fresh water preservation and conservation to be a serious concern that demands more attention, and is an important conversation we need to open up with our children, and for and on behalf of our children.
